Continuing on from my last post, the
tornado's keep coming. They promoted one of our existing nurses to
Director and literally the day after that, the weekend graveyard
nurse quit with no notice. Our poor new DON (Director of Nurses),
while struggling to take on all her new responsibilities has also had
to be the graveyard weekend warrior. I am helping her as best as I
can.
After two weeks of doing the scheduling
and cleaning up the existing mess, the online scheduling app we were
using got hacked and multiple random shifts were deleted. I had to
totally abandon using that as a resource and start over from scratch
with nothing to refer back to since the schedule that was originally
there was compromised and couldn't be trusted as a reference point.
So we are going back to old school
paper schedules again. The young CNA's don't like it because now they
can't see their schedules on their phones and can't send me nasty
texts complaining about the shifts they have to work. Even though the
situation sucks for now, I'm actually glad this happened. I never
liked the idea of forcing people to download apps onto their phones,
something I won't even do myself. If the internet goes down or there
are power outages, our schedules will be safe. Except for the massive
amounts of drama I now have to deal with, I kinda like doing the
schedule. I sit down to work on it at 8am and the next time I look up
it's 2pm.
I'm still getting a ton of overtime,
but at least I'm caught up enough to have my weekends off.
I was at Walmart to pick up some fans a
couple weeks ago and found myself in the kitchen gadget section. I
saw a little 2 quart crock pot for $10. For ten dollars I almost
couldn't NOT buy it, if you know what I mean. I absolutely love it.
So far I cooked a corned beef in it and made homemade stew that was
absolutely yummy!
Today, in honor of Mother's day, I'm
attempting to make Chicken and Dumplings in it. Chicken and Dumplings
is my all time favorite food in the world. I tried to find some
recipes on how to cook it in a 2 quart crock pot – but all I could
find were lame recipes. You can really see the Dead Internet theory
at work because you can only find major cooking website recipes and
most of them want you to use rolled dough for the Dumplings or God
Forbid, refrigerator biscuits. No. The only way to make it is using
spoon drop biscuits that will be all fluffy when they are cooked,
just like grandma used to make. We'll see how it goes.
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers
out there. May your day be filled with God's abundant blessings.
Take care out there.
