Comcast - Bastards of the Universe

Let's say that I don't believe in conspiracy theories. (I do, but for the sake of arguement, let's say I don't.)

One of the main important reasons I moved into my current apartment was that I got free expanded basic cable. Channels 2 - 71. I was especially happy that the government mandated switch from analog would "not" affect those on cable as advertised every time the switch was advertised. Lying Bastards.

Today, I got a letter from my local Comcast company - my comments in parantheses:

Dear Comcast Customer,
We're writing to share some exciting (bullshit!) news about your cable service. Comcast is upgrading its digital service in your area! You already receive Comcast Standard Cable through you property management company, but if you have televisions in your home that are not connected to a digital box, you need to take additional action within the next few weeks.

Effective April 15, 2009, all Expanded Basic cable channels (channels 32-71) will be transmitted exclusively in digital format. This means that you will need to have either a digital box or digital adaptar for each television on which you wish to continue viewing channels 32-71.

Currently, your complex management provides you with Comcast Standard Cable service for free. (yeah, and that must really piss you off!)On or after April 15, 2009, channels 32-71 will be transmitted only in digital format. This means that you will need to have either a digital box or digital adapter for each television on which you wish to continue viewing channels 32-71.

This change is NOT tied to the Broadcast Digital Transition you may have heard about. (oh really?)

I left some of the parts of the letter out but you get the general idea.

Now to the conspiracy aspect. It it really only about money or the idea of selling analog airwaves etc? Of course having the government mandated box isn't good enough for Comcast, they want a couple listening devices...er I mean digital boxes, of their own. Please take a look again at my post here and take the link there to Ken Adachi's site. I don't know if I buy into the idea of actual mind control, but I'm not convinced these things are not intellegence gathering vehicles, or have you not watched the movie "Enemy of the State"

Bastards!~

The digital transition now scheduled to take effect on June 12, will only affect over the air channels. If you are a Comcast customer, you don't have anything to worry about. For more information about the transition, please visit this URL: http://www.dtv.gov/.

Regarding the Comcast "internal transition", we are moving the analog channels to digital because this allows us to add more channels especially HD channels. For every analog channel, we can fit in 10 to 12 digital channels or 2 to 3 HD channels.

In some areas, analog channels were already moved to digital and we've offered Digital to Analog converters (DTA) at no cost. If you are willing to provide the phone number associated with your account, I will be happy to get the specifics for your area.

Oh, no thank you Mr. Casem. I prefer not receiving any phone calls from your Comcast representatives. I would rather move. I can go online to watch reruns of House.

Thanks. But, no thanks
