Hhmmmmm. Seems that a couple regular readers of this blog were surprised by my musical choices yesterday. I'm assuming they were just messing with me – but just in case they weren't I picked out some presents for them.

The Burning Question

Allegedly, there was an ass ass in nation attempt on the resident of the Kremlin yesterday. I personally think the whole story is false. Just a little propaganda to get the masses all terrified about WWIII for the weekend. Whenever I want to know what they are saying to scare the masses, I go to Drudge.com and see what their red letter headline is. They have since moved this story to a sideline. Anyway, BCE has a good post about it:

Unfortunately, I believe the crashing of the banking system is real. I don't understand why people would pull their money out of their local bank or credit union and put it in one of the criminal banks like Bank of America or Wells Fargo. I'd rather bury my money in a tin can in the yard.

The real burning question though, was from Steve in the comments yesterday. What ARE Dairy Product Solids? Here is the answer from the American Dairy Products Institute itself:

“Milk Permeate: Also known as: Dairy Permeate and Dairy Products Solids. Milk Permeate is produced by the removal of protein and other solids from milk resulting in a product with a high concentration of lactose. Removal of the dairy constituents is accomplished by physical separation techniques such as filtration and diafiltration.

The acidity of Milk (Dairy) Permeate may be adjusted by the addition of safe and suitable pH adjusting ingredients.

Milk (Dairy) Permeate meets the definition of Dairy Products Solids, which is the subject of a GRAS notification to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and complies with all provisions of the U.S. Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.”

Homemade Hot Cocoa

Since I had to throw out my big container of Nestle Hot Cocoa due to it being derived from a bye oh engine earring product, I decided to just make my own.

I used the recipe from here:

She does specify to use dutch-processed cocoa in the mix. I'm sorry – but we don't have those fancy schmancy ingredients out here in Kansas. At least not at my local grocery store. I just bought regular cocoa and it was a little bitter – but still very good for my first time making it. I will probably tweak the recipe a little for next time.

The recipe made a huge batch and I have enough left over ingredients to make at least one more batch if not two. The cost was about the same due to the fact that the powdered milk was very expensive – almost twelve dollars.

What my new cocoa mix does NOT have are the following ingredients that were in Nestle's brand:

Corn Syrup Solids, Dairy Product Solids (wonder what the hell that is????), Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Coconut and/or Palm Kernel and/or Soybean) Cocoa processed with Alkali, and less than 2% of salt, Cellulose Gum, Sodium Caseinate, Dipotassium Phosphate (always a good time) Sodium Aluminosilicate, Mono-and Diglycerides, Guar Gum, Artificial Flavor and Sucralose.

I think I can live with that. (or without it – depending on how you look at it)

Trusting God

Surprisingly, I had internet access at work yesterday up until the last hour of my shift. I clocked in early so it evened out. My boss has been understanding about my internet problems. She is willing to work with me to make up any missed time and stated that she does not want to see me go. So for now, my job is okay. We will just have to take it one day at a time. Thank God.

Campbell's, You Suck

I have long since stopped buying Campbell's soups, since there are far better soups out there. But I was highly disappointed to find out that their Cream of Mushroom soup was GMO'd. It was the best soup for hot dishes. I really wish I had known to look at these labels closer before I stocked so many cans for the end of the world. Sigh.

My dad got a cast on his foot and promptly bought a power chair to drive around. He crashed it going in reverse. He and the chair are okay, but he probably shouldn't be driving. My sister was telling me that Thursday night her and Dad went out to dinner for prime rib, and the next day he broke his ankle. Everything changed for him overnight. I will keep you posted on that.

Now for the bad news (haha, if I didn't have a healthy sense of humor – they would need to lock me up and throw away the key.)

It's Monday morning and of course I have no internet for work. I make my 11^th call to the internet provider. Luckily they were able to get a technician out that afternoon. The technician was a young guy, and really knew the job and knew what he was doing. Probably one of the best technicians you could even get in this area. He spent 4 hours here and even replaced the modem. He reiterated what I already know, the satellite just can't handle the encryption capacity of the VPN which is required for my job. At the end of the day – nothing had changed.

He handed me a little computer pad for me to sign the statement, “I am completely satisfied with the service I have gotten from Hughesnet”. I said, “Look,” (I mean he was a great guy and I felt REALLY bad for him) “You are wonderful, but I'm in the exact place I was before you got here. I'm NOT satisfied, let alone completely satisfied.”

He said, “Well, you just need to sign it stating I was here.” (I really did feel bad for the guy) I handed it back to him and told him, he would just have to tell them that I wouldn't sign it. Then I shoo'd him out because I needed to cry. I know that there is nothing more I can do and I am going to lose my job.

I'd like to thank everyone who gave me advice about internet options. I have literally called every single internet provider in the area and no one can get me the internet that I need for my job. Starlink will not work for me because it is way expensive and there is no customer service department. So even if I ordered it, paid for it and found someone to install it for me, if it didn't work, I would have no one to call and just be out that money.

But, there is still Hope (Gotta love it). God is in control and has a plan for us, even if I don't know what that is at the moment. I am trusting Him.

My Dad

So my poor dad slipped and fell getting out of the shower on Friday. Dad is in his early eighties so this is not a good development. My sister took him to Urgent Care. They told him it was a sprained ankle, to ice it and keep it elevated, and sent him home.

Shortly after that, the doctor called him to say that he had, indeed, broken it. He broke both a bone in his foot and one in his ankle. He found a friend to drive him back to Urgent Care and they put a splint on it to hold him over for the weekend.

Today he will be going back to have a more permanent cast put on. He is getting around in a wheelchair and says that he is not feeling too much pain, so that is good.

Please keep my dad in your prayers.

Phil over at bustednuckles.com is also having some health issues so please pray for him as well.
