So the car broke down. It is either just a belt - or possibly the air compressor. My husband attempted to get up from his deathbed to take a look, but only made it as far as the stairs. He knows there is no ice cream in his future if we don't get it fixed. So looking into somehow getting a mobile mechanic out.
Ca-ching.
I'll keep you posted.

Do you mean the AC compressor? Cars and trucks don't have an air compressor unless it has air brakes... The AC compressor can seize up and stall a serpentine belt or even break it. That is the pits! I am sorry for you and with parts being harder to find and more expensive because of the supply problem. You can have a air compressor as an auxiliary driven off of the engine if you are using air tools and such.
I think maybe AC compressor - but I don't know for sure. Also, your last couple comments did not show up until this morning. I will get them posted soon. Possibly the guy from the auto parts store may come by and fix it for us. Luckily they were able to order the part and it is already in. Phew!
